Rajasthani Chana Dal Kadhi : Grandmother's recipe!
Hello friends, after a gap, I am here.. I was travelling ( safely) so i was not able to continue blogs. So came to my mom's home and she told me about this recipe of my nani(maternal gradmother) and so thought of just writing it over. Just made it today.
Its a easy recipe with readily available ingredients.
Lets Begin..
Ingredients Reqd:
1. Boiled Chana Dal- 1cup
2.Buttermilk/ Curd( should be sour)
3.Besan/ Gram flour - 2 tspoon
4.salt( as reqd)
5.Spring onion( optional)( chopped finely)
6.Oil for cooking
Masala-e- magic :
oil, turmeric powder, red chilli powder,
Methi seeds( fenugreek seeds), salt as reqd, mustard seeds, cumin seeds.
For Tempering :
Oil, Curry leaves, garlic -5/6 pods,jeera, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, dried red chili
For garnishing : Kasoori methi/ coriander leaves.
Preparation: ( Time : 20-25 mins)
1.Take sour curd and add gram flour/ besan in it with reqd salt and mix it well and keep it aside for 10-15 mins.
2.Take a kadai, add oil and the masalas ( jeera, mustard seeds, methi seeds ), let it crackle and then add boiled chana dal to it.
3.Cook for 5 mins and then add the chopped spring onion and let them both turn mushy.
4.After its cooked, Add the curd+ besan mixture and keep stirring it continuosly otherwise it will curdle.
5.Bring it to a boil and let it cook for 10-15 mins ( kadhi will be more tastier if you boil it for a longer time).
6.Now make a tempering side by side, take a pan, add cumin seeds, methi😘seeds, garlic pods, dried red chilli, curry leaves, kashmiri red chili powder and add it to the kadhi.
7.Our Chana Dal kadhi is done and garnish it with kasoori methi / Coriander leaves.
This recipe was made by rajasthani women in village long ago when guests came and there was nothing to prepare.
Enjoy it with phulka/ jeera rice/simple rice.
